FAQ
Straight answers for Australian teachers
What Teacher Sorted does, how it handles non-contact time, how the free trial works and what Australian billing looks like.
Admin Sorted
What is Admin Sorted?
It’s the part of Teacher Sorted that helps you get everyday school admin done. Draft parent/carer messages, class updates, trip letters and assemblies, plan visits, build a non-identifying pupil support target, or create and print your teaching timetable. You review anything it drafts before using it.
Where do I find it, and is it included?
Open Admin Sorted from the sidebar, or More on your phone. It’s included with Teacher Sorted during your trial and membership. You don’t need a separate subscription.
Can I upload or create my teaching timetable?
Yes. Open Admin Sorted → Teaching Timetable. Upload a timetable file or photo, paste its text, choose a starting example or build your own week. Check the lessons and times, then save. You can use Week A/B, make changes to specific dates, print it and choose whether to show it in Today and Week. It’s optional and doesn’t automatically add work time. Keep pupil-identifying information out of uploads.
How do I get started?
Choose one job, add the details you know, then review them before creating a draft. Check and edit the result before you use it. For a first try, choose Write a class update or Write a newsletter contribution.
What’s the difference between a project and a quick job?
A quick job helps with one piece of admin. Projects such as Plan a trip, Plan a class assembly and Teaching Timetable keep work you’ll return to. You choose which project preparation jobs to add to your Teacher Sorted workload. Starting a project doesn't silently rearrange your week.
Does Admin Sorted save my work?
Saved Work lets you return to supported jobs and projects, including teaching timetables. For messages and letters, use Save version to keep an accepted draft. Teacher assembly scripts can be saved too. Visit-risk wording needs copying out. Support Target Builder inputs and targets aren’t saved: copy them into your school’s usual system before leaving.
Does it send messages or approve trips for me?
No. You review and edit drafts, then use your school’s usual sending and approval process. Check venue information, arrangements and risks with the relevant people. Admin Sorted helps you prepare; it doesn’t book a visit or approve a risk assessment.
What pupil information can I include?
Follow the guidance in the job you’re using. Keep pupil names and identifying or sensitive casework out of general text boxes and group-level jobs. In a parent/carer message, the dedicated first-name field stays in your browser and is replaced by a placeholder before drafting or saving. Support Target Builder accepts relevant non-identifying educational context after you confirm it contains nothing that could identify the pupil. Its inputs and targets aren’t saved.
Before you try it
Is Teacher Sorted a lesson planner?
No. Teacher Sorted helps with the work around teaching: planning and preparation, marking, assessment, resources, communication, reports, admin, pastoral follow-up and the other jobs competing for your non-contact time. It does not generate lessons and you do not need to enter every lesson you teach.
Do I need to add my teaching timetable?
No. It's optional. In Admin Sorted → Teaching Timetable, you can upload a photo, PDF or document, paste a timetable or build one yourself. Check the draft before saving, then choose whether it appears in Today and Week. You can also print it. Your usual non-contact work time does not change just because you add a timetable.
Does it work across Australia?
Yes. Teacher Sorted is not tied to a curriculum or one state system. Schools use different names for non-contact time, including RFF, NCT and DOTT, so Teacher Sorted uses broader planning and non-contact language and lets you name your own work blocks.
Can I try it before I pay?
Yes. The standard trial is seven days. A payment card is required, but A$0 is charged when the trial starts. Stripe holds the payment method securely. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the plan you selected at signup takes its first payment when the trial ends.
Why do I need to verify my email after adding a card?
Teacher Sorted uses that check to confirm you control the email address on the account. We also ask you to type your email twice at signup to catch typing mistakes before payment setup. You can verify after Stripe or do it later. Verification does not pause, cancel or enable billing: your trial and selected subscription continue on their stated schedule unless you cancel.
What happens when my free trial ends?
Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the plan you selected at signup takes its first payment at the trial boundary and then renews on that billing interval. That happens whether or not you have completed email verification. If you cancel during the trial, you keep access until the trial ends and no first subscription payment is taken.
Planning a real teaching week
What does Teacher Sorted do that a to-do list does not?
A to-do list tells you what needs doing. Teacher Sorted also compares the work that matters with the non-contact time you have chosen to use, so you can see whether the plan is realistic. When the week changes, it shows the effect instead of simply adding another item to the list.
How do I add work or tell Teacher Sorted something changed?
Use Tell Teacher Sorted in ordinary language, or press T on desktop. For example: “Mark Year 8 maths assessments by Friday, about 40 minutes.” You can also change a job or say “I lost my non-contact time today.” Check the proposed details before saving; Teacher Sorted asks if something important is missing.
How does work time work?
Add the time you genuinely expect to have available for work. A 60-minute block gives you 60 minutes. A start time is optional. You can also say whether the block is suitable for uninterrupted focus, so concentration-heavy work is less likely to be suggested in the wrong place.
Will my timetable automatically add non-contact time?
No. Lessons and school commitments can appear beside your plan. A non-contact or preparation period only becomes work time when you choose to add it. Importing a timetable doesn't move your existing work or change your chosen hours.
Can I change my timetable for a single day or a different week?
Yes. Use a usual week or Week A/B, then make changes to individual dates or future weeks as needed. You can review saved versions and print class or teacher copies. Check imported lesson details against your school's timetable.
What if I lose planning time or a meeting overruns?
Record the time you have lost and Teacher Sorted rechecks the plan. If the change creates a real problem, you see the effect and can choose how to deal with it. Your usual weekly pattern stays intact unless you choose to change it.
Will it tell me to work evenings or weekends?
Not unless you have chosen to make that time available. Teacher Sorted works with the boundaries you set. If the work does not fit inside them, it shows the gap rather than treating your evening as spare work time.
Can I email work into Teacher Sorted?
Yes. Settings → Emails gives you a private Teacher Sorted address. Forward an email you have received, or send a new email yourself from Outlook, Gmail or another mail app. The clearest action becomes a task, with the source email and supported attachments kept for reference. If the email does not give a time estimate, the job stays in Needs Details until you add one. Teacher Sorted only receives messages sent to that address; it does not read your inbox.
What if a job cannot start yet?
Use Available from when the job genuinely cannot be started before a particular date or time. Teacher Sorted will not put it into work time before then. It does not book any time or change the deadline.
What if one job depends on another?
If one job cannot be done until something else is finished, Teacher Sorted can keep that link with it. It will not put the later job into work time just because there is a gap available.
Can Teacher Sorted suggest how to start my day?
Yes. When there is room, Start my day can show optional additions in the work time where they could fit. Add them, adjust them or start with the plan you already have. Nothing is added until you choose it.
Can I find and plan work from the Work page?
Yes. Work is where your full list lives. Search and filter it by things such as due date, status, category, context or time needed. For work that is ready to do, use Plan today or Plan this week and Teacher Sorted will check whether there is suitable work time.
Can a big job be spread across smaller gaps?
Yes. Mark a task as something you can do in useful chunks and set the smallest useful chunk. Teacher Sorted can suggest a split plan across suitable blocks. As you record progress or update the estimate, you can see what is still left to do.
Can I start, edit or delete a repeating routine?
Yes. Open a routine from Work or Today to start it, use the timer or edit its repeat pattern. Finishing an occurrence records what you did and leaves the next one ready. Choose Edit repeating routine to change the pattern, or Delete if you no longer need it. Finished occurrences stay separate from the next one.
Can I finish for the day with work still left?
Yes. Finish for now on Home helps you see what you've done and where to start again. You can stop without clearing the whole list. Teacher Sorted doesn't quietly move deadlines or put jobs into your evening.
How does Preparation work for Primary teachers?
Primary users can keep a practical preparation job together as one Preparation item in Work, move it through stages such as adapting, printing, collecting and setting out, and let the next useful action take part in planning. You do not need a separate task for every small preparation step.
Can I use Batches for repeated work other than marking?
Yes. Marking is one example. A Batch can represent repeated units such as papers, books, calls or checks. Record the total, how many are complete and roughly how long each one takes, and Teacher Sorted keeps the remaining quantity and time visible as you make progress.
Can I connect Google Calendar to plan around meetings?
Yes. In Settings → Calendar, choose the Google accounts and calendars Teacher Sorted can read. For each calendar, choose whether to show event names or just busy times and whether those events block work time or are for reference only. Only an overlap with the work time you've made available reduces the time Teacher Sorted can use.
Can I put planned work into Google Calendar?
Yes. Choose one or more calendars from your connected Google accounts to receive timed Teacher Sorted work. Nothing extra is switched on for you, and other calendars stay read-only. Anyone with access to a selected calendar may see job titles, so leave student-identifying details out.
What about Outlook or Apple Calendar?
Use the private calendar link in Settings → Calendar to show planned Teacher Sorted work in Outlook, Apple Calendar or Google Calendar. The link is one-way: edits in your other calendar don't change your Teacher Sorted plan, and the link doesn't let Teacher Sorted read meetings. A direct Outlook connection for planning around meetings is coming soon.
Can I see the week as a list or calendar?
Yes. Week has List and Calendar views of the same plan, with work waiting to be placed. Today also puts planned work alongside calendar events in time order.
Working and finishing
Can I keep notes that are not tasks?
Yes. Notes is for short work-related thoughts without a deadline or time estimate. Pin up to three to Home, bring one back for review, link it to related work or archive it. On desktop, press N to add a note. Notes don't use work time.
What is the difference between Finished and Archived?
Finished means the work was completed. Archived means you decided not to do it, so it stays separate from completed work. Both remain available in Work and can be restored. Permanent delete is separate: Teacher Sorted asks you to confirm it and gives you a short Undo window.
Primary, secondary and privacy
Is it for primary or secondary teachers?
Both. Primary teachers can handle preparation, resources, assessment and regular jobs. Secondary teachers can work across classes, marking and one-week or two-week patterns. The underlying idea is the same: make the work fit the time available.
Should I enter student names?
Keep names and identifying details out of your workload and general text boxes. Admin Sorted gives specific guidance for each job. A parent/carer message has a separate first-name field that stays in your browser; the name is replaced with a placeholder before drafting or saving. See the Admin Sorted questions above for support targets and other privacy boundaries.
Can my school or leadership team see my workload?
No. Your workload and plan are for you. There is no manager dashboard, staff ranking or productivity score.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes. You can download your workload data or delete your account from Settings. Account deletion asks for confirmation before removing the records linked to it.
Pricing and billing
How much does it cost after the free trial?
Australian plans are A$11.99 a month or A$99 a year, charged in Australian dollars. The price and first payment date are shown before you start your card-backed trial. There are no feature tiers. Existing eligible Founding Teacher annual subscriptions keep their agreed price while they remain active.
Will I be charged in Australian dollars?
Yes. The Australian version uses separate AUD Stripe prices, so the amount shown on the Australian pricing page is the currency used for your trial and subscription billing.
Can I still get the Founding Teacher price?
The A$79-a-year Founding Teacher offer closed to new sign-ups on 1 October 2026. An eligible trial started before that cutoff may still show the founding option in the account. If you have an eligible founding annual subscription, you keep that price while it remains active; cancelling ends the entitlement. It isn't a one-off lifetime payment.
Can I cancel or change my card?
Yes. During the free trial you can cancel from Teacher Sorted Billing and keep access until the trial ends without a first charge. Once a paid period has begun, billing settings take you to Stripe’s secure portal, where you can cancel, update payment details and download invoices. If you cancel a paid subscription, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Remembering work for later
Can I save a job now without it cluttering this week?
Yes. Use Bring back to choose when a future job should return to your planning. Before then it stays findable and editable in Work, but stays out of routine near-term suggestions. When you return on or after the chosen date, it becomes eligible for planning again. You can bring it forward yourself, and an earlier deadline still needs attention. Bringing a job back does not book it into a work block or move its deadline.
Is Bring back the same as a reminder or Waiting?
No. Bring back is for work you want to remember now and consider later. A reminder is a separate notification at a chosen date and time. Waiting is for work blocked by somebody or something else, with an optional follow-up date. Bring back does not need notification permission and does not change the job’s real deadline or the earliest time it can be done.
